LOTE Graduation Requirements

In order to graduate, students must complete one (1) unit of a second language. The opportunity to earn this credit starts at the middle school level for most students and is earned by passing the course and the Regional Second Language Proficiency exam in 8th grade.

In order to earn a Regents diploma with Advanced Distinction three (3) units of a second language are required. To earn the three credits students must complete level 2, level 3, and pass the level 3 Regional Second Languages Exam.

For students who plan to attend college, Levels 4 and 5 are highly recommended.

Level 5 will have opportunities to earn college credit the 3-1-3 SUNY. Senior students enrolled in 3-1-3 at SUNY Brockport and taking level 5 French/Spanish at the high school may earn six (6) college credits from SUNY Brockport. Students not in 3-1-3 SUNY can discuss alternative options with their level 5 teacher.
