Engineering and Technology Lessons for Children

"Scientists discover the world that exists; engineers create the world that never was."
- Theodore Von Karmen

Brockport Central School District fifth graders are being introduced to engineering. The Elementary Engineering program teaches students about the fields of engineering and technology. The lessons are taught by high school students enrolled in the Project Lead The Way sequence (more info at www.pltw.org). The first lesson gives students an understanding of the connections between Engineering, Science and Technology. The next lesson will use interactive activities to teach students about the field of Civil Engineering with a focus on bridges.

The Elementary Engineering program was developed to inspire students at Brockport to pursue careers in science and technology. As our society increasingly depends on engineering and technology, it is important that we foster engineering and technological literacy among children in K-12 educational settings. Brockport is doing its part by offering this program as well as the Project Lead The Way pre-engineering sequence to students in grades 8-12.
