Brockport Students Excel at SkillsUSA State Competition

Congratulations to our Brockport students who completed and placed at the New York State SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Championships in Syracuse from April 23-25!
- Carpentry students Daniel Sidore and Henry Wallington competed against other construction-related students in the team competition and won first place - they are two of seven BOCES 2 CTE students eligible to compete at the national conference this June in Atlanta!
- A silver medal was won by Genevieve Contrera after she collaborated with six Dental Assisting peers to compete in Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
- Computer Technology student Yushua Nieves won bronze with his third-place finish in Information Technology Services.
- Leadership activities are also a core function of the event and nine BOCES 2 CTE students represented the chapter as delegates including Brockport and Dental Assisting students Joshua Sauers and Ilona Svyrydyuk.
-
During the awards ceremony, the BOCES 2 CTE SkillsUSA chapter earned recognition of its own, being named a Model of Excellence for the second time in three years. This is the highest honor bestowed upon a SkillsUSA chapter. Dental Assisting students Grace Berardicurti (Churchville-Chili) and Genevieve Contrera (Brockport) will represent the BOCES 2 CTE at the national conference in Atlanta as the chapter advances in the Model of Excellence competition.
In total, 21 BOCES 2 CTE students combined for 11 medals in the championship competitions including five first-place finishes. Congratulations to our amazing students on a job well done!
