Freshman Seminar Course
All BCSD Student are required to take Freshman Seminar course. This full year course is designed to help incoming freshman students orient to our high school, serve as an academic and social emotional support for a successful transition as well as align with a Portrait of a Graduate, aiming to support and empower students in their academic, personal, and professional development. Freshman Seminar equips students with the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to navigate high school and beyond with confidence and purpose. Course content will focus on the following areas: Executive functioning and organization; Learning and study strategies to support academic success; Building positive personal relationships, time management, goal setting, and self-awareness; Career planning and service to others. Additionally, the course is desighed to foster self-awareness and initiate career connected learning assist students to support a pathway to graduation and beyond. In this course, students will take a Clifton Strength Assessment to help them identify their strengths and offer potential career ideas based in the 16 National Career Clusters. Students are expected to increase Executive Functioning by mastering organization skills, time management, and study skills as well as begin building their Digital Portfolios.
